There is no air-conditioning in the dorms making it unbearable to live in them. It's so hard to sleep because the room is circulating hot air. Even with seven fans, the dorm room is no where close to cold.To the right is a photo of a room in South Halls (either McElwain or Simmons) and it is clear that these rooms are not too big. So living in a small congested room is brutal.
I am currently living in Simmons hall and I am very uncomfortable considering it the worst part of summer and the heat is unbearable. The sun beats in my room making it even hotter, and the only thing the fans do is blow around hot air. It's hard to focus, sleep, and do anything productive in my dorm room, therefore students living on campus should be able to bring their own air conditioning unit.
The housing office ultimately has the final say in whether or not we can bring air conditioning units in the dorms. Once the housing office approves of this change, which won't take long, students will be able to immediately install their air conducting units. All of the students living in the dorms at PSU will be positively impacted because it will be more livable to stay in these dorms when it is 90 degrees outside.

The solution to this problem would be that all the students living in dorms without air conditioning would have the option to bring in their own window air conditioner. These cost around 200 dollars on average, which is affordable considering the cost of multiple fans that students need to bring would add up to that same number.
This will be feasible to do because this type of air conditioner requires minimal instillation. The school would just need to approve the students to bring in and install air conditioning. This is acceptable because it is going to benefit all of the students living in dorms. It will be more enjoyable to be in the dorm room because it won’t be so unbearably hot. It will be easier to sleep and stay asleep. It will be easier to literally breathe if the room is colder. Having one air conditioning unit will make a huge difference rather than having several fans in the room blowing hot air and taking up unnecessary space. Overall, putting air in each dorm is definitely acceptable, feasible as well as doable.

Possible issues that could arise would be that all students may not be able to afford an air conditioning unit, and the housing office may not accept them because it could be a safety hazard. Realistically, students pay a lot to go to school at Penn State University and in order for them to succeed, allowing them to bring in air conditioning units will help them sleep better and through the night, focus in class, and enjoy being in their dorm rooms.
